Best Ways to Burn Belly Fat

I often get asked, “What’s the best way to burn fat and lose my belly?” People want to know if aerobics is better than strength training, or if traditional cardio exercise is better than intervals.

Well, to say I’ve done them all would be an understatement.

With over 15 years experience helping others, training myself, training for sports, spending countless hours in the gym, AND actually conducting laboratory research studies on different exercise methods, I’m pretty confident in knowing Read more

How To Structure A Kettlebell Workout For Size and Strength

Here’s another article by guest author, Mike Mahler.

How To Structure A Kettlebell Workout For Size and Strength

By Mike Mahler

Mike MahlerI get tons of emails from kettlebell trainees on how to structure kettlebell workouts for getting bigger and stronger. Many trainees make the mistake of doing too many exercises; apply improper use of volume; and use flawed training frequency. Training frustration is soon to follow with the inevitable lack of progress from not having a clear target. When designing a program, you must consider that you can only be good at so many things. Thus, one of the keys to designing an effective program for strength and size is to keep things simple and focus on doing a few things well. Moreover, your balanced development is critical as is proper exercise selection. Lets get into some key ingredients for maximizing a kettlebell program for size and strength.

The first thing you need to do is focus on are exercises that provide the most bang for you buck. I like to break down a full body workout into five categories. Pick one pressing exercise, one pulling exercise, one exercise for the quads, one for the hamstrings, and Read more

Sandbag Training…

I’ve done some sandbag training on and off over the years. It’s tough stuff, but every time I have a sandbag workout I end up wishing I did it more often. It’s just such a change from the norm.

Generally, I just make it up as I go along. A typical sandbag workout might just be repeatedly picking it up and putting it back down, or simply picking it up and carrying it up and down the street or around the block.

I rarely put much thought into sandbag training when I’m doing it - it’s just a fun, different workout from my normal routine. However, I just came across The Caveman’s Guide to Fitness and Sandbag Strength. Each looks like a full course in sandbag training.

Both programs are currently less than $20 - pretty affordable for this type of information. And check out the bonuses - especially for the Caveman’s Guide!

The Turkish Get-Up…

The Turkish Get-Up is a great exercise for overall bodywork. It’s a good workout for the core, shoulders, and even the legs. In addition, there’s an added element of shoulder stability and flexibility that you don’t get with many other drills. These are a few reasons why Pavel has made it one of the only two exercises in Enter the Kettlebell.

Another great thing about the Turkish Get-Up is that it can be done with different tools. While kettlebells are excellent for them, you can also get creative and use a dumbbell, a sandbag, even a barbell with some work.

Jeff Martone has a great article on the Turkish Get-Up that covers both a warm up and the TGU itself on his Turkish Get-Up article.

H2H Kettlebells - Strength, Stamina & Coordination

Jeff Martone’s H2H Kettlebells series is basically a course in kettlebell juggling. Designed for explosive speed strength conditioning, the DVDs can play a major role in an effective speed training workout by improving strength and hand-eye coordination.

As expected, the first H2H Kettlebells DVD is made for the beginner, and covers the basics. These drills take your standard kettlebell training to the next level, allowing the bells to leave your hands.

Here’s the link: H2H: Kettlebell Drills

The second DVD is more advanced, and also covers more exercises. This one doesn’t detail the basic body mechanics quite like the first one, as it’s geared more for trainees who are already fairly advanced.

Here’s the link: H2HII: Harder. Faster. Stronger.

The third DVD is H2H:Kettlebell Circuits. Designed for beginners through advanced people, this DVD focuses on Read more
