Choosing a Kettlebell DVD…

Whether you’re brand-new to kettlebell training, or have been working out with them for a while, it may be time to pick up a kettlebell DVD. Just a few short years ago, it was difficult to find any kettlebell DVDs other than Pavel’s. Fortunately, the popularity of kettlebells has resulted in a surge of DVDs to choose from.

Now, I’ll admit that I haven’t seen most of these DVDs. However, I’m only presenting information from people who I know have the training, experience, and reputation to put together a useful, informative product. I thought I’d make a quick post putting a few in one handy place.

For general kettlebell training, check out these DVDs:

By Pavel Tsatsouline:
Enter the Kettlebell

By Mike Mahler:
Kettlebell Solutions for Speed and Explosive Strength
The Kettlebell Solution for Size and Strength
The Kettlebell Solution for Fat Loss and Mental Toughness
Beginner Kettlebell Training Workshop

Mike also discounts his DVDs when bundled:
Fat Loss/Mental Toughness, Size/Strength, Speed/Explosiveness
Fat Loss and Mental Toughness PLUS Speed and Explosive Strength
Size and Strength PLUS Speed and Explosive Strength

With Steve Maxwell, Steve Cotter, and Nate Morrison
Boys Are Back in Town Kettlebell Workshop DVD
(see review here)

By Steve Cotter:
Xtreme Kettlebell Workout
Encyclopedia of Kettlebell Lifting Volume 1
Encyclopedia of Kettlebell Lifting Volume 2

Specifically For Fighters:
The Martial Art of Strength Training Volume 1
The Martial Art of Strength Training Volume 2

If you’re interested in taking your kettlebell training to the next level, adding some tosses, catches and juggling, Jeff Martone is a specialist. Kettlebell juggling is not a gimmicky bar trick, it’s serious stuff. You’ll see the benefits in speed, power, explosive strength, and hand-eye coordination – great for athletes, military, law enforcement, or martial artists.

H2H: Kettlebell Drills
H2HII: Harder. Faster. Stronger
H2H: Kettlebell Circuits

If you’re looking for a kettlebell DVD specifically made for women, here are a few:

From Russia with Tough Love (I have this one, and it’s very good. It covers a lot of exercises.)
Kettlebell Goddess Workout DVD (Check the running time on this one! And it’s gotten great reviews.)
Kettlebells the Iron Core Way (two volumes, discount when you get them both)
All of the above are available from Russian Kettlebells. Also, you can get either of the first two packaged with a kettlebell as a kit and save $10.00 or so.

Kettlebells: Cardio & Fat Loss for Women
Kettlebells: Interval Training for Women
Both of the above are available from Tactical Athlete.

Hopefully this short list will help you find a kettlebell DVD that will help you reach your goals faster. Most of us don’t have a qualified trainer available, so a good DVD is the next best thing. Personally, I have (well, had) From Russia with Tough Love. It’s over an hour long and covers lots of kettlebell drills, and some of Pavel’s basic instructions on tension and using the breath. I loaned it to a friend and haven’t seen it since.

I also have the original Russian Kettlebell Challenge, which is also very good. However, It’s been replaced by Enter the Kettlebell. I have the Enter the Kettlebell book (good basic introduction with a solid plan for advancement), but I haven’t seen the DVD yet.
