The Russian Kettlebell–Top 3 Ways to Burn Fat
It’s no secret these days that more and more people in general are getting out of shape. There are countless pills and gadgets on the market that are touted as the latest shortcut to fitness. Sadly, we all know there are no shortcuts. So, how do you know what works? Well, honest effort will always work.
Enter the Russian Kettlebell. This small “cannonball with a handle” represents the utmost in brutally elegant simplicity. Imagine having one portable piece of equipment that delivers everything you need for total fitness. That’s a kettlebell.
Today we’ll briefly discuss three Russian kettlebell exercises that are guaranteed to boost your energy and flatten your “spare tire”. This article is more about the “why” and less about the “how”, so there won’t be detailed instructions for the drills themselves.
First up is the kettlebell swing. This exercise is the most basic of all the kettlebell drills, and forms the foundation for many of the other lifts. It works practically your entire backside, and is virtually unmatched for strength endurance training and fat burning. The swing is basically the action of swinging the kettlebell between the legs and up to about chest height. There is no spot for a rest during the movement, so the cardio and fat loss benefits are compounded. In addition, it’s much easier on the joints than running.
Next is the kettlebell snatch, sometimes referred to as the “Tsar” of Russian kettlebell exercises. The basic movement is very similar to the swing. However, the snatch is more explosive, and takes the kettlebell completely overhead in one swift move. It’s a step up in difficulty as there is more technique involved. However, it’s still relatively simple, especially when compared to its Olympic-Lifting counterpart. A strong ticker, powerful back and shoulders, and legs that won’t quit will be your rewards if you buckle down on the kettlebell snatch. Of course, the snatch offers the same fat-burning benefits as the swing as well.
Finally, to circuit training. Circuit training is not an exercise itself, but more of a way of training. The simplicity and portability of the Russian kettlebell lends itself well to circuit training. The point is to move from one kettlebell exercise to the next with little to no rest. Because you’re not fatiguing one set of muscles, you can keep your body moving, and the fat burning, for longer.
With just one kettlebell, you can do all of the fat burning you’ll ever need to do. These are only three simple ideas, and only scratch the surface of the Russian kettlebell’s benefits. You don’t need pills or half a dozen gadgets, just one piece of equipment and some honest effort.
